Hello my friends and welcome back to another service of Cowboy Church.
Today's musical selection begins with The Monroe Brothers with their 1936 recording of Will The Circle Be Unbroken. Different from most of the bluegrass gospel numbers I include on these posts, this is a slower paced recording. You probably won't mind this due to how incredible beautiful this recording is. Those who are mostly familiar with The Carter Family song, Can the Circle Be Unbroken, may find they don't recognize the lyrics, outside of the chorus. This is because the Carters in 1935 took this song and rewrote much of the lyrics while keeping the melody and using a similar chorus. This version features the original lyrics. This song dates back to 1907 and was written by Ada R. Habershon and Charles H. Gabriel. Many artists would later use the much of the Carter Family lyrics but use the original title and chorus. This song in all incarnations is both sorrowful and uplifting. It reflects on losing those you love, but at the same time speaks about how you will see them again in Heaven. Next comes one of the most popular country gospel songs of this century. The song is Three Wooden Crosses and the singer is Randy Travis. Written by Kim Williams and Doug Johnson this song has found its way into the hearts of so many country fans. Country songs have often been associated with telling stories and there is no doubt the story portrayed in these lyrics is incredible as well as incredibly moving. This great song comes from Randy's 2002 gospel album Rise and Shine and would be named Song of the Year by the Country Music Association. Next comes an appropriate (and admittedly often used by me) song for these Cowboy Church posts. This is Roy Rogers with A Cowboy's Sunday Prayer. This comes from Roy and his wife Dale Evans' 1959 gospel album, Jesus Loves Me. This is followed by Merle Haggard with Jesus, Take a Hold. Written by Merle himself, this great song comes from his 1971 album Hag. This song reminds us that God is the only one who can set this world straight, not any politician or public figure. Next is Johnny Cash singing Spiritual. This recording comes from his 1996 album Unchained. The backing band on this recording and this whole album was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In the documentary film, Running Down a Dream, Tom Petty states that this was one of his favorite albums to make. Today's musical selection ends with The Sons of the Pioneers with their 1951 recording of The Lord's Prayer.
Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God. Job 1:20-22 Casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you. Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. 1 Peter 5:7-8 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. Romans 5:3-4
Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7

O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. Psalm 139:1-2
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8
