Hello my friends and welcome back for another service of Cowboy Church.
Today's musical selection begins with Emmylou Harris singing Light of the Stable. Emmylou recorded this song in 1975. She would later state "Light of the Stable is one of my favorite tracks we ever cut. It was the jelling of the original recording group, the combination of Brain's [Brain Ahern] production and how incredibly creative those guys were was perfect. There is almost more space on the track then there are notes and I always loved that." The song would become the title track of her 1979 Christmas album, which I personally consider one of my favorite Christmas albums. As much as we love Christmas decorations and stories about Santa Claus, it is important to remember as great as those things are that the real meaning of Christmas is our lord and savior Jesus Christ. The Charlie Daniels Band remind us of this with their beautiful original Christmas song, Jesus is the Light of the World. This comes from their 1980 album, Christmas Time Down South. Next is Tennessee Ernie Ford with It is Well With My Soul. This is followed by The Sons of the Pioneers singing Christmas on the Plains. This performance features a much more modern incarnation of the band than I usually put on these posts, and they are simply wonderful. The current line up of the Sons of the Pioneers are incredible and so is every line up they have had so far. If you love Cowboy music, as I figure many fans of this blog do (at least the ones who read the Cowboy Church posts), don't limit your Sons of the Pioneers listening to only the older output. A country Christmas music theme continues with Charley Pride singing Santa and the Kids. Christmas time is often associated with childhood and this fun little song perfectly captures the childlike essence and simplicity of this time of year. This recording comes from Charley Pride's 1970 album, Christmas in my Home Town. Though this world may hurt you, Jesus will be our friend no matter what happens. When we think that there is no one we can talk to about something, Jesus is always there with open arms, waiting for us to pour out our hearts to him. In return he will pour out his love and comfort us. Let us all remember this as we hear Willie Nelson sing Tell it to Jesus. Afterwards Trace Adkins will remind us that we have Victory in Jesus. Today's musical selection ends on a Christmas note with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans with Merry Christmas My Darling. This Dale Evans composition comes from their 1967 album, Christmas is Always.
