Hello my friends and happy Sunday. Welcome back to another service of Cowboy Church.
Today's musical selection begins with our good friend Roy Rogers along with The Jimmy Wakely Trio performing Silent Night in a great 1940 recording. Though this version hardly ever gets much attention from radio stations or Christmas playlists, I feel that this is actually one of the finest recordings of this great song. Roy's voice fits the material perfectly and the soft tender instrumentation is simply lovely. Put these two together and you have Christmas music perfection. Another version of a classic Christmas song that often gets completely overlooked is Waylon Jennings' version of O Come All Ye Faithful. Though Waylon didn't record a great number of Christmas songs, when he did record them they came out near perfect and no one sings them better. This is followed by Kitty Wells with a lovely song called Paul's Ministry. This lovely recording comes from her 1962 gospel album, Singing on Sunday. If you can't guess by the title, this song is about the apostle Paul. The story of the apostle Paul is one that will always have something to teach us no matter how far we come in our Christian walk. One reason for this is it shows how much God can truly change the heart of a human being. Another reason is that it shows us that hardships and pain are something that those who trust in God will still have to endure, but that we shouldn't let them get us down because God sees the eternal and has blessings and joy planned for us that we can hardly imagine. Up next is The Purple Hulls with That's Christmas to Me from there 2018 Christmas album. This is followed by the one and only Tennessee Ernie Ford with He'll Understand and Say Well Done. This song reminds us that we are suspired to share God's word and what he has done for us with others and that even if we do not change other's minds God will be very happy and proud of us for sharing. After this comes Alan Jackson with 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus. Next is Martha Mears and The Sons of the Pioneers with the Christmas classic Jingle Bells. This recording comes from an episode of the radio show, 10-2-4 Ranch dated December 15th, 1944. Today's musical selection ends with The Charlie Daniels Band with a bluegrass version of the gospel standard How Great Thou Art. This comes from their 2005 bluegrass gospel album, Songs From the Longleaf Pines. As a fan of the group's bluegrass music and their gospel music, this album is one that certainly stands out to me.
