Hello my friends. In this morning's Saturday morning cartoon post I mentioned that their was a 1940 article that referred to the Grasshopper from the Silly Symphony, The Grasshopper and the Ants (1934), as Jiminy Cricket's uncle. The whole article this comes from is excellent and therefore it is my pleasure to share with you here. So the following article comes from a 1940 issue of Silver Screen, and chronicles the life and birth of one Jiminy Cricket.
Jiminy Cricket was one of the few characters from a Disney feature of this time, to have an animated Disney life outside of that one movie. He served as our host in another feature, Fun and Fancy Free (1947), appeared on TV's Mickey Mouse Club (1955-1959) and taught us not to be fools in a series of educational shorts. The reason for this is obvious, he is simply a very appealing character who fits into both period and modern day stories with complete ease.
