I love country music, as I know anyone who reads this blog should know by now. One of the greats of country music of course is the one and only Roy Acuff. His songs were pure poetry and his voice had a sincere honesty that was immediately appealing and personal. I was personally introduced to him watching a lot of Hee Haw with my grandparents growing up. Because of this I mostly knew him as the older guy who sang old country music standards on some episodes of that show. As I learned more about the history of the genre, I learned just what a legend this guy was and how large of an effect this man had on what country music became. As I started listening to Roy's earlier work I quickly became hooked. His best music is still just as powerful and moving as it was back when it was new. This 1949 article from Swing magazine is a great look into who this very talented man was.
