The first two cartoons from the new Disney+ series, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, premiered today (appropriately on Mickey's 92nd birthday) and I am happy to say they are quite good. These shorts are done by the same people who did those excellently cartoony Mickey Mouse shorts for the Disney channel. These shorts benefit from running 8 minutes instead of the three minutes those previous cartoons ran. The shorts use this extra length perfectly. While they are still just as cartoony and silly as the previous cartoons the extra length allows for more threatening villains and greater obstacles for our heroes to overcome. Because of this we get a good old fashioned battle of wits between Pete and Mickey in the first short and a slightly creepy house of tomorrow in the second short. These greater difficulties add a lot to the excitement of these cartoon. Yet none of this takes away from the humor. These shorts are quite funny and delightfully silly (the first short even has Mickey wrangling cheese like he was wrangling cattle). They will definitely amuse those who feel that feel Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is too tame and not cartoony enough. This is a good start to what will hopefully be a great series. -Michael J. Ruhland
